Archive Report-Based Filter Retirement

What's being done?

GRAX is ending support for the Report filter option when configuring a GRAX archive job.

Why is GRAX retiring support for this feature?

Historically when doing an archive, there have been 3 filter options to grab only the necessary parent object data:

  • Date Filter: any standard or custom date field on the object
  • Report Filter: picks up records from a report, as long as GRAX is included in the report name or report folder name
  • Advanced: allows you to enter your own SOQL query

The report filter is the least scalable option, as it currently leverages asynchronous Apex jobs and is subject to heap size limits. Additionally, the SOQL option can provide even more flexibility and is a more efficient way to query the data.

How does this impact me?

Customers who currently have archive jobs leveraging the Report filter option don't necessarily need to do anything if they continue to run as expected. However, if an issue or Salesforce limit arises, we advise you to switch to one of the other options.

What's the recommended workaround?

We recommend using the Date or Advanced option going forward.

Timing

GRAX support for this feature ends in the Spring of 2022. This may be accelerated if changes are needed to protect the integrity of the GRAX service, or if third parties retire a piece of their service which makes the feature unavailable.
